John Nolan Speaks Out on New Record

Jason Tate of AbsolutePunk recently reached out to John Nolan to ask whether fans should be expecting Tell All Your Friends 2 from their upcoming album. Here's what John had to say:

When Jason asked me if I wanted to write something to fans who are hoping to hear Tell All Your Friends Part 2 I had to take some time to think about what I might say. Most of you probably know by now that the new Taking Back Sunday album will not be Tell All Your Friends Part 2 and I was wondering whether or not I should defend that. I decided that instead of going on the defensive I'd tell you this: The new album is a return to the enthusiasm, creative openness and honesty that spawned our first one. We didn't set out to recreate the sound of Tell All Your Friends, but we did set out to reconnect with the excitement and energy we felt making it. When we got back together we knew we needed to find that same motivation and intensity and let it lead us to new places. We didn't want to survive on nostalgia, we wanted to acknowledge the past and then build something new. I believe that we've accomplished that and I hope that you'll be happy with the results. It's time to look forward. Too much looking back will turn you into a heap of salt.

Love,
John
